Bloom Lighting Group partnered with Whitlock Architects to deliver a comprehensive custom restaurant lighting program for Moxies Boston, one of the city’s most design-forward dining and social destinations. Spread across multiple levels with distinct atmospheres at each, this project called for a hospitality lighting design approach that could shift in character from floor to floor while maintaining a cohesive, brand-aligned identity throughout.
The entry and staircase set the tone immediately. A sweeping multi-arm branching chandelier in brass and gold with exposed globe bulbs commands the double-height arrival space, its generous scale and warm glow signaling that this is a restaurant that takes design seriously. The feature staircase wall amplifies that statement further with a sculptural gold geometric installation composed of layered angular fins with integrated globe bulbs, a bold architectural lighting moment that doubles as art and gives the space an energy that is entirely its own.
In the main dining room, the fine dining lighting design moves to a more refined and intimate register. Rectangular pendants with faceted crystal and brass frames hang as jewel-like focal points, their warm interior bulbs casting a flattering, sophisticated light across the dining tables below. A single faceted crystal pendant in brass serves as an elegant accent in key transitional moments, and linear rectangular pendants with soft fabric shades run cleanly above the main dining room seating, their understated warmth allowing the food, the guests, and the interiors to take center stage.
On the upper levels and rooftop dining spaces, the lighting shifts again, this time toward a more relaxed and industrial sensibility that suits the open, view-driven character of those environments. Small vintage-style pendants with dark metal housings and globe bulbs bring warmth and personality to the patio dining areas, while slim cable-hung pendants on the open ceiling rooftop level keep the look minimal and unobtrusive, letting the Boston skyline do the heavy lifting.
Bloom Lighting Group’s expertise in custom hospitality lighting and multi-level restaurant lighting design made this a natural fit alongside Whitlock Architects. Managing a lighting program across spaces as tonally varied as a glamorous entry chandelier installation, a polished main dining room, and a casual rooftop requires both broad product knowledge and a strong editorial sensibility, knowing how to shift the language of light while keeping the overall experience feeling unified and intentional.
Moxies Boston is a proud addition to our portfolio of luxury restaurant lighting projects and a testament to what thoughtful, fixture-driven custom hospitality lighting can bring to a multi-level dining destination. If you are designing a restaurant, bar, or hospitality space across multiple levels or environments and need a lighting partner who can navigate that range with confidence, we would love to connect.
